Who I AmDr. Tony McCaffrey. I teach math at Eagle Hill School (www.eaglehill.school). I received my doctorate in cognitive psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. My research focuses on improving people's creativity and problem solving skills.
I also run a company, Innovation Accelerator, Inc. (www.innovationaccelerator.com), which produces software to help inventors search and think laterally (i.e., "out of the box"). |
Captain SidewaysCaptain Sideways is my comic book character that helps people solve problems by looking at the problem “sideways” (i.e., from unusual perspectives). I use Captain Sideways to teach youth proven innovation and problem solving techniques. My PhD is in cognitive psychology and my research is on improving people’s creativity and problem solving skills. The first comic strip basically sums up my 170-page dissertation in just five pictures and shows how everyone aboard the Titanic might have been saved. Captain Sideways’ computer is called C-More because it helps the Captain “see more.” My students at Eagle Hill are giving me valuable feedback to improve the comic strip. For example, they already tell me that Captain Sideways needs an arch-enemy, a sidekick, and perhaps a pet.
